With the mission to improve early childhood development and education (ECDE), the county directorate of ECD convened a consultative workshop focusing on promoting a wider dialogue among practitioners.
The meeting was jointly organized by the County department of Education and ADS- Nyanza, with the aim of developing the Kisumu chapter to spearhead the formulation of the ECD framework and regulations.
The consultation brought together participants from the various sectors of the county government to brainstorm on the way forward towards the formulation of the Kisumu County ECD framework with a special focus on nurturing care.

The CEC Member for Education Mr. John Awiti noted that the meeting was a key step on the road map for Kisumu’s working with partners to incorporate early childhood development interventions into the county plans and to scale up interventions and services within and outside the education sector. The CEC Member reconfirmed the County Government’s commitment to work with partners to strengthen early childhood development interventions at a county level.
The Director ECD Madam Wilkister Odera highlighted the continuous efforts of the County and its partners to support early childhood development .

The presentations shared the Region, national and county overview of early childhood development from the ECDE Network, ADS Nyanza and the county directorate of ECD, including burden and Challenges.
The meeting also echoed the need to bring on board the male counterpart as one of the significant challenges in improving early childhood development.
