Water supply in Kisumu County has received a major boost after the acquisition of a speed star drilling set that has ability to drill up to 360m deep.

The equipment will enable more County residents to get constant supply of clean and safe water in adequate quantities throughout the seasons.

This was in response to the outlined concerns such as:the Ministry of Water Environment and Natural resources recognizes the fact that every human has a right to clean and safe water in adequate quantities, women and girls travel long distances in search for water hence more time is wasted that would otherwise be directed to other economic activities, prolonged droughts, prevention of water borne diseases and ultimately that every household should access clean and safe water in line with vision 2030.

The flagging off ceremony was presided over by Governor Jack Ranguma at Prosperity House,Kisumu. Speaking during the event, the governor promised to drill boreholes in sub counties such as Nyando,Lower and upper Nyakach,Seme,Muhoroni,Kisumu East and Kisumu West.

He also reiterated that boreholes do not offer permanent solutions towards constant water supply, hence plans are underway to expand Kajulu water intake, Kombewa–Maseno water project and treatment works in upper Nyakach where pumping of the water will be by gravity. He added that raw water from Koru dam will be useful in irrigation, power generation and some quantity will also be treated for domestic use.
