The County Department of Education and Vocational Training together with African Women’s Development and Communications Network – FEMNET, held a two days engagement forum with the County assembly committee on Education to review the Kisumu County Vocational Education and Training 2024, with the Stakeholders’ discussions geared towards the regulatory framework for the Bill.
The Committee headed by the Chairman Hon. Seth Okumu was taken through the general regulations and recommendations for the policy bill which provides for a framework on establishment of systems for administration, management and governance of Vocational Education and Training Centers (VETC).

Speaking during the official opening of the forum, the CEC Member for Education Mr. John Awiti, encouraged the County Assembly committee members and the technical support staff to spearhead the regulations to ensure operationalization of the Bill.

The Plenary covered the stakeholders’ recommendations with committee recommendation on establishment of the VET fund and finance regulations as well as the general regulations in the operationalization of the centres.

The regulation follows the enactment of the Kisumu County Vocational Education and Training Bill 2023 that calls for institutionalization of appropriate mechanisms to promote access, equity, quality and relevance in training.

Also present was the county director VET Madam Paschalia Ouma together with the Center managers from Rotary Madam Gladys Akinyi, Akado VTCs Mr. Martin Owino, student representatives and county officials.
