Distributions continue in flood-hit Nyando and Nyakach sub-counties with all most 2100 households having received enough rations of wheat flour rice, blankets and other basic supplies to last them
Governor Nyong’o in the accompany of the County Commissioner and His deputy Dr. Mathew Owili led a delegation of National Government officers, county officials and other humanitarian partners to the distribution rations and visiting flood victims at Ombaka and Nyong’ong’a Rescue Centres in Nyando and Nyakach sub-counties to monitor the ongoing rescue activities.
The Governor reported that the county eventually hopes to provide emergency food rations to all affected people across Nyando and Nyakach in Kisumu County.
In collaboration with the national government and well-wishers, the governor said, the county government of Kisumu has continued distributing food and other supplies to the victims and that with the help of the Kenyan Government to assess the scale of the crisis and the needs of those affected by the subsequent flood.
The leadership recognized that with the persistent floods, there are fears that people living in affected areas will have no crops to harvest, jeopardizing their food security in the coming months.
However, the governor pledged continuous support towards the affected households.
