Kisumu County Inter-vocational training centers 2022 ball games kicked off today as delegations of players from the 26 VTCs marched triumphantly into Moi Stadium, coming together for the first time to stage competitive games as part of co-curriculum activities in the syllabus.

Under the theme, ‘promoting skills and talents through sports among the youths in Kisumu’ the 3 days of inter-vocational ball games will run from the 14th through to 16 June 2022 at the Moi stadium and the Rotary grounds.

The opening ceremony was graced by Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o who was accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture Hon. Peter Munya, the Senator for Nyamira County, Hon. Erick Okong’o Omogeni and the Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili.

The ceremony started with speeches from invited guests, as Kisumu Governor officially opened the ball games. Governor Nyong’o highlighted the County’s commitment, to establish at least one VTC per Ward and improve the general aesthetics of the existing ones, having established eight more VTCs,   to procure modern tools and equipment to match the current trends in technology, address skills, and labor market mismatch to create more jobs for our youth, as well as recruiting more female trainees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics in the VTCs.

“Inter-vocational training ball games is a major milestone in promoting tertiary education in the county, a proof that devolution is working and is a success.” Said the Governor.
