Malnutrition is the second risk factor that leads to death in Kisumu County.
This is according to a study conducted at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.
Top on the list of risk that leads to death within the region is risky behavior among the resident of Kisumu.
While opening sensitization on advocacy on nutrition at Ciala Resort, Ag CECM Dr. Greggory Ganda said that Kisumu is now concentrating on tackling the root cause of malnutrition.
“Solve the under-laying issue, then people will live longer.” Gr Ganda emphasized, adding that it’s time that poverty is eradicated and the problem of malnutrition will be reduced by large.” He added.
The two days sensitization workshop organized by Advancing Nutrition and sponsored by USAID brought together civil societies working with children within Kisumu County.
The objective of the workshop was to empower participants with advocacy skills for improved nutrition outcomes.
The session was also geared towards the start of the scaling up nutrition civil society network and the importance of a network for partners to advance nutrition.
Dr. Kennedy Otieno exposed the participants through the principles of advocacy and steps in unpacking the decision-making processes priority matrix and the Multi Attributes utility theory table (MAUT).
These were geared towards influencing them to prioritize nutrition as they work with children and the community as well as advocating for the same amongst their partners, even after understanding the components of an advocacy plan
During the workshop, Dr. Daniel Onguru took the participants through evidence-based advocacy messages as a support for the nutrition advocacy after the participants analyzed the nutrition situation and problems requiring advocacy they are expected to carry out.
While closing the workshop, Mr. Gilchrist Okum, CECM Agriculture, livestock and fisheries charged the participants to help spread the message on nutrition, “We want our people to eat well .” He spoke.
