Kisumu County in collaboration with ICLEI Africa, have organized a 3 day workshop on climate finance and project preparation under the banner of 100% Renewables cities and Regions Roadmap dubbed 100%RE project.

The aim of the first two days workshop being held at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel is to train and provide an overview of climate finance requirements from funders and to work on specific projects through group working sessions that will enable peer to peer exchange.

Day three workshop that will be held in Nairobi, this Friday will be a continuation of the two days to link projects potential.

The workshop brought on board participants from the Ministry of Energy, National Government Agencies, Development partners, Officers from Kisumu, Nakuru and Mombasa Counties and the Project Implementation Team.

The objectives of the workshop is to enhance participants ability to understand climate change, climate finance and project preparation, assist in formulating project concepts suitable for approaching funders and support entities among others.

While officially opening the workshop, the CECM for Infrastructure, Energy and Public Works Mr. Salmon Orimba, affirmed Governor Nyong’o’s unwavering political will in support of the project.

He commended ICLEI Africa for the timely project that has come at a time when the County is polishing it’s strategy and re assessing the growth policies being developed to align to the global objectives of reducing Green House Gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and ultimately to zero by 2050.

Mr. Orimba applauded ICLEI Africa for their three years of commitment to the project objectives including capacity building and provision of technical support to develop a 100%RE strategy and Action Plan ( ROADMAP) for Kisumu County which is to be launched together with Kisumu Clear Energy Expo later in the Month of November this year.

He also thanked them for choosing climate finance courses for capacity building since the demand for climate finance skills and training require swift response to provide an introduction to climate change and it’s related economic and environment impacts as well as solutions.

Generally, the training of Government Officials empowers them to access and manage climate finance efficiently, catalyze climate resilient projects, promote economic growth, reduce emissions and ensure equitable allocation of financial sources to benefit vulnerable populations.

The facilitators are from ICLEI Africa, they include: Dr. Azizat Gbadegesin, Ms Carrine Buma and Ms. Stephanie Canac
