
Cognizant of the scope of the work involved in the National Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) and the need to foster collaboration, build synergies and tap into experiences, the project requires a panel of experts in place to assist the County Project Coordination Unit (CPCU) in the project implementation.
It is against this backdrop that the department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Blue Economy under which NAVCDP is domiciled, organized a two-day training / sensitization workshop to the appointed Panel of experts for Infrastructure and Market Development Panel as from 3rd to 4th August 2024 at Allaxis Hotel in Migori
The aim of the training is to bring on board a panel of experts; with specialized knowledge or expertise in a particular field, to provide input and opinion on a particular topic or issue.
Some of the expected outputs of the training is to:
Understand the implementation structure of NAVCDP, know the integration between SACCOS/ FPOs / CIGs and how to transition farmers transition from small scale to commercialized farming .
Understand the project in compliance issues; instruments to be used in environmental compliance.
Mainstream cross cutting issues, especially gender issues.
Understand digital agriculture baseline; where we are and where we are going.
Ensure the Panel of experts to know their roles, the roles of community institutions and internalize message to reach farmers through various methodologies.
The topics covered today included: NAVCDP overview, mainstreaming of cross cutting issues, community institutions and their roles in NAVCDP, agribusiness development and FPO approach, SACCO model and role of fiduciary in SACCO and FPO approach.
