The County Government led my CEC member for Sports Gender Culture and Youth Affairs Hon. Beatrice Odongo today joined the consultative meeting seeking community feedback on the alarming rise in Gender Based Violence and Femicide in Nyakach sub-county.
The consultative meeting organized by the Nominated Senator for Women’s Affairs Sen. Catherine Muyeka Mumma under the office of Senator Kisumu brought together various groups including Teenage mothers, young women, Women, Widows, Youths, PWDs, CHPs, Council of elders, traders, Religious groups, bodaboda groups, the Police and the administration in a meeting held at Sondu Miriu Hall in Nyakach.
Backed by the President’s call to end Gender Based violence ( GBV) and femicide in the country, Nyakach Sub County community engagement aimed at driving the”Komesha Dhuluma” campaign, a bold initiative in addressing the rising cases of GBV and femicide in the Sub County.

The Komesha Dhulma campaign, also known as “Kik Ipand Otoyo, Obiro Chamo Nyithindi,” aims to create transformative change at the grassroots level by addressing the root causes of GBV.
As Kisumu continues to confront rising cases of GBV, including alarming rates of femicide and teenage pregnancies, the county Department of Gender through the County Gender Technical Working Group has made strives in policy formulation with the Sexual Gender-based bill currently at the assembly for discussion.

In her remarks the Hon. Odongo highlighted efforts by the County Government in addressing GBV, teenage pregnancies, and femicide, acknowledging commitment to combat GBV and teenage pregnancies in Kisumu.
Hon. Odongo also emphasized the need for reporting GBV cases stating that the data helps paint a clearer picture of the scope and nature of GBV in a particular area or context as well as raising public awareness.
With the rising cases of GBV and Femicide, the community members called for intervention in raising awareness of GBV, Femicide, and teenage pregnancies in the area.
