The County Government of Kisumu has entered into a strategic agreement with Equity Bank to digitize its farm input subsidy program, a move set to boost agricultural productivity and improve farmers’ access to certified inputs.
The new initiative, launched under Equity Bank’s E-voucher copayment system, will allow farmers to contribute part of the cost of farm inputs, after which the county government will top up the remaining balance.
These vouchers will only be redeemable at accredited agro-dealers ensuring that farmers access high-quality and certified inputs while supporting local businesses.

Governor Prof. Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o welcomed the move, stating it aligns with Kisumu’s agricultural development strategy.
“This collaboration perfectly aligns with our strategic plan to boost agricultural productivity and improve the livelihoods of our dedicated farmers and local entrepreneurs, including agro-vets.” he said.
He emphasized the benefits of transparency and accountability, highlighting that only eligible and registered farmers will benefit from the program, reducing misuse of public funds.
He added that the digital approach would cut down the time and travel expenses farmers previously incurred when collecting subsidies from government offices.
By channeling funds through certified agro-dealers, the project is expected to stimulate rural economic growth across the agricultural value chain.
Equity Bank Managing Director Moses Nyabanda praised the initiative, describing it as a tool for rural empowerment.

“This partnership aligns with our mission to uplift rural communities through financial inclusion.” he noted
He added that the system would help farmers begin building credit histories and gain access to loans, further enhancing agribusiness opportunities and resilience.
“As farmers transact, they will begin to build a credible financial history, unlocking access to other services such as farm input loans,” he said.
This initiative is set to position Kisumu as a key county in the drive toward agricultural commercialization and food security as well as supporting Equity Group’s Africa Recovery and Resilience Plan.
