Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o has expressed deep concern over the disturbing case of Millicent Aoko, whose home was set on fire by her husband in a shocking act of domestic violence.
Governor Nyong’o, in a strong statement of solidarity, condemned the unfortunate incident.
“We stand with Millicent Aoko. We are deeply troubled by the heartbreaking incident involving Millicent Aoko, whose home was tragically set ablaze by her husband.” said Governor Nyong’o.
In a show of compassion and swift action, the County Government of Kisumu through the Department of Public Service, County Administration and Participatory Development, Office of the Governor led by Mr Salmon Orimba has secured a fully furnished two bedroom rental house for Ms Aoko and her children.
This is a temporary but dignified solution as the county government explores more sustainable support for her and her family.
The governor also thanked Kagwetha Live Channel for highlighting the case, which prompted community awareness and rapid response.
Beyond this single case, the governor emphasized the importance of mental health support and counselling for families facing stress or conflict.
“Let this be a solemn reminder: violence is never the answer. We urge families to embrace dialogue over destruction and to seek counselling and mental health support where needed.” He said.
He also called on Kisumu residents to support Millicent during this difficult time. Those willing to assist directly can reach her at 0725741952.
