Kisumu is rallying behind Agai Mixed Secondary and Sigoti Complex Girls as the two teams prepare to represent Nyanza region at the National Secondary school games in Kakamega.
At a special breakfast meeting held this morning at the Sunset Hotel, the County Government celebrated the teams journey and pledged full support as they enter the final stretch. The event brought together top county leadership, teachers, coaches and student athletes for a moment of motivation and encouragement.





Deputy Governor Dr Mathew Owili who represented Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o, delivered the Governor’s message of pride and encouragement.
“This was meant to be the Governor’s day with you Professor Nyong’o had wanted to have a sitting with his sons and daughters” Dr Owili told the students.
He added “He had planned to sit down with you over breakfast. However, an urgent matter came up, and he had to travel to Nairobi yesterday. He asked me to represent him and share his message with you. So please receive his warm regards”

Agai Mixed will carry the county’s hopes in football and Sigoti Girls are set to take on rugby challenge. Dr Owili reminded the students that getting to this stage was no accident.
“Your arrival on this stage today is no accident. It’s the result of hard work, careful planning, solid execution, and consistent support throughout the journey. We were watching every step of the way.” He said.
He stated “In fact, my team from the office and colleagues from the county have been with you throughout, walking this journey together”
To support their preparations, Governor Nyong’o gifted Ksh 50,000 to each school, Dr Owili topped Ksh 40,000 and he further committed Ksh 100,000 to the teams if they return home as national champions.
CECM for Sports Beatrice Odongo, confirmed that the teams kits and tracksuits for the technical bench had already been procured and were officially issued by the Deputy Governor to both teams and coaches during the event.

Ms Odongo said “As a department, I know the Deputy Governor will be issuing you with kits. We have kits ready for the rugby team, as well as kits for the boys. We also have tracksuits for the teachers.”
She added “We expect you to win the national championships in Kakamega and go on to represent Kenya at the East Africa level. We’ll stand with you, by you, and for you, to make sure you succeed in everything you do.”
CECM Beatrice Odongo, together with the local leadership led by Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Patrick Lumumba Owade, MCA for South East Nyakach, home to both schools, pledged logistical support and promised to provide four buses for supporters if the teams make it to the finals.
The event closed on a high note. With a joint declaration led by the DG and CECM Odongo. “Agai to the World! Sigoti Girls to the World!
Also in attendance were Deputy Majority Whip Hon. Patrick Lumumba Owade, Chief Officers Magdaline Wasama (Sports) and Bovince Ochieng (Education), George Osura Secretary Sports, Kisumu County, Principals Gordon Akoko (Agai) and Rose Madungu (Sigoti), amongst other officials and representatives.
The National Secondary School Ball Games is set to take place in Kakamega from July 29 to August 2. 2025.
