The President’s Award Kenya team, led by Mr. Kipyegon Serem, the Program and Project Coordination Officer for Western Kenya, today held a courtesy meeting with Hon. Beatrice Odongo, the County Executive Committee Member for Sports, Culture, Gender, and Youth Affairs.

The purpose of the meeting was to explore a partnership aimed at providing non-formal education and learning to young people. This initiative seeks to recognize and celebrate the achievements of youth beyond traditional academic settings, equipping them with universal skills to help them thrive.
The award program is set to be extended to various groups across the county, including schools, youth groups, rehabilitation centres, and open award centres.

During the discussion, Hon. Beatrice Odongo stressed the importance of reaching youth at the grassroots level instead of focusing solely on urban areas where internet access is more accessible. She also requested that the mentorship training include a crucial mental health component.
The county department will be tasked with identifying eligible youths between the ages of 18 and 24 at entry level. The mentorship program is divided into three categories Bronze, Silver, and Gold—and will last for 18 months. Upon completion, participants will be awarded a certificate signed by the President of the Republic of Kenya at State House.
