Governor Nyong’o has today appended his signature on the MoU as a commitment towards making Kisumu County Resilient.
Through participating in MCR 2030, Kisumu County is committed to apply ten essentials for making Counties resilient. These include
1. Organize for disaster resilience
2. Identify, understand and use current and future risk scenarios
3. Strengthen financial capacity for resilience
4. Pursue Resilient and urban development design
5. Safeguard natural buffer to enhance the protective functions offered by the ecosystems
6. Strengthen institutional capacity for resilience.
7. Understand and Strengthen societal capacity for resilience.
8. Increase infrastructure resilience
9. Ensure effective disaster response.
10. Expedite recovery and build back better.
The Governor also received a certificate of commitment to disaster risk reduction and resilience during a courtesy call to his office by Joy Mugambi and Brenda Kajuju from GIZ – Resillience Initiative.
This came after the just concluded three days workshop on Risk- informed development planning and making Cities resilient organized by the County Government of Kisumu, GIZ – Resillience Initiative Africa (RIA) and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
