The stakeholders met to validate the primary respondents and stakeholders findings on integrating vital nutrition criteria into wholesale market investments at the Pinecone Hotel in Kisumu on Friday.

The exercise brought on board stakeholders from County departments of Trade and markets, Revenue collection, Treasury, national planning, city management that is critical since they are in charge of physical infrastructure development and architectural of the market and Agriculture department concerned about food security.
The project is keen on ensuring that the structures put in place are supportive to nutritious food and promotes long life to those that are highly perishable.
The findings of the study are expected to inform the architectural work in kibuye market before finalizing on the design. It will also inform by giving some of the perspectives on the constraints, structural issues affecting the markets that needs to be captured in the new design.
While officially opening the session, Hon. Farida Salim the CECM for Tourism, Trade and Markets, said the findings and the recommendations will be crucial in guiding on the management aspects and leadership elections in the markets
Kibuye market has since been earmarked as one of the Jumuia Mashariki Markets, hence they also expressed interest on the requirements for the Market to enable it be positioned to serve beyond Kenya and East African Community.
Moving forward, there will be training and coaching activities for the market leadership to address issues at hand.
The study is funded by FAO and implemented by Tegemeo Institute – Egerton University.
Also in attendance were the Chief Officers from Public Service Mr. Timothy Kajwang’and his counterpart from Agriculture, Mr. Walter Odum and the Deputy City Manger Mr. Charles Omollo.
The facilitators included: Mr. David Makongo gave a brief of the project, Dr. Lilian Kirimi led the opening session Dr. Jackson Lagat introduced the study and validation objectives while Dr.John Olwande presented the findings
