A multi-sectoral training forum recently convened in Kisumu County, Kenya, to create a more inclusive world for women with disabilities. The event, supported by the Women Challenge to Challenge organization, brought together stakeholders from various counties and duty bearers to discuss challenges, opportunities, and strategies for empowering women with disabilities.
Participants from Kisumu County included representatives from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), sub-county administrators, and village leaders. The forum explored the unique challenges faced by women with disabilities, emphasizing the need for inclusive policies and practices. Discussions centered on issues such as access to education, healthcare, employment, and transportation.
The forum also highlighted the critical role of stakeholders in empowering women with disabilities. Government agencies, civil society organizations, and private sector entities were urged to work together to dismantle barriers and promote inclusivity. Participants emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment where women with disabilities can thrive and contribute to society.
