The County Government of Kisumu has begun unclogging drainages in towns within Ahero/Awasi Municipality.

The Chairman of the Municipality Prof. Humphrey Obora while launching the activity at Ahero town within Nyando Sub-County said the move is geared towards attracting more investors within and making it a 24-hour economy town.

At the same time, he called on the traders selling their wares along the Kisumu-Ahero-Nairobi highway to relocate to avoid road accidents which have been witnessed in places like Londiani, Yala, and other areas.
“For your own safety, we at the municipality intend to relocate those who do their businesses along the said road in a humane manner so that we avoid any likely misfortune we have witnessed in other areas,” he said.
The Municipality’s Manager, Stephen Sule said once drainages are unclogged it will help improve the services within the area.
He also said that his office will get views of the residents in a bid to improve services.
The County’s CECM for Lands, Physical Planning, Urban Development, and Housing Kennedy Hongo called on all the stakeholders of the municipality to join hands with the County Government in its endeavor to unclog the said drainages saying it both their responsibilities to make the market a conducive atmosphere for doing business.

“We can’t be clean and neat in our homes because it’s our responsibility yet where we derive our income we say it’s the responsibility of others,” he said.
The County’s CECM for Trade, Industry and Marketing Faridah Salim and his Chief Officer Bovice Ochieng’ and the Municipality’s Board members were present during the function.
