Following the concerted effort to transform the Early Childhood Development Program presently in Kisumu and how to meet new demands for inclusivity, Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o has formally launched the new model ECD at Cannon Nyong’o in Seme Sub county.

According to the CEC member for Education Mr. John Awiti, the new model ECD center caters perfectly for the needs of children that is set to be implemented across all ECD centers in the County.

The Centre is part of the move towards a curriculum change, which is the move towards a different style of learning involving Play learning as well as nutrition “it’s time we do things differently in order to ensure all round development of a child in its early learning stages”

Governor Nyong’o officiated the launch of the ECD center witnessed by Mama County H.E Dorothy Nyong’o, the Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili, CEO Play Action International Ms. Murielle Maupoint alongside Members of the County Assembly and the County officials.

Governor Nyong’o was grateful for the exemplary support by Play Action International. ” A profound thank you to my family for their unwavering support, including donating the land for the school. I am certain our patriarch, Canon Nyong’o, and my mother are smiling upon us today.” Said the Governor.

In a remarkable support for ECD, Kisumu Governor donated the land in which the center is located and he officially transferred the landownership to the County government of Kisumu for public use.

The Deputy Governor Dr. Owili also supported the school with 35 pairs of sports shoes for the learners.

In line with the vision to promote inclusivity in transformative Early childhood development education, the county department of Education is engaging stakeholders to improve early childhood development outcomes in the communities in Kisumu. With this approach, it becomes possible to achieve ECD investment based on evidence and information on the actual development of children, capacity-building services; curated knowledge on best practices and policy implementation support in the county.
