The Kisumu County Climate Change Council convened its first meeting to discuss the FLLOCCA Project progress report and address climate action plans to improve coordinated responses as stipulated in the Kisumu County Climate Change Act 2020.
The Council also addressed the Financial report, on FLLOCCA, the work plan, and the Budget.
The meeting was chaired by the CEC member of Finance and ICT, Mr. George Okong’o who is also the acting Chair of the Council. Mr. Okongo highlighted the importance of the Council and the county government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and equity in climate adaptation efforts and supporting the FLLOCCA project.
The Council comprises of the Governor, who is the Chairperson and in his absence the deputy governor, the Acting CEC member For Water Environment And Climate Change Madam Judith Oluch who is the secretary to the Council, Chief Officer of the Department responsible for Finance and economic planning, Chief Officer of the Department responsible for Agriculture, Livestock And Fisheries, chairperson of the Climate Change committee of the County Assembly, the city manager, a representative of the private sector, a representative of the civil society organization whose activities are related to climate change, and a representative of the academic and private institutions.
The Council emphasized on a unified approach and coordination as essential considerations for future meetings. This first meeting set the stage for meaningful collaboration and laid the groundwork for achieving shared objectives in climate resilience and preparedness.
