The smallholder farmers of Ombeyi ward in Muhoroni sub County are thrilled to have received 5 sets of solar water pumps distributed to 5 groups towards adopting solar-powered irrigation systems as a critical adaptive strategy by the farmers .

The FLLoCA funded Solar water pumps aims to promote solar irrigation as a water-energy solution for climate-resilient and socially inclusive agrarian livelihoods in Kisumu, with more than 100 households expected to benefit from the initiatives.
The beneficiary groups include, Lie Lango junction, golden self-help, Horticulture young farmers, Wasamu and Young lady B women group.
“Thanks to the revolutionary solar irrigation pump given to us today through the FLLOCA project, we’ve been trained on how to use the pump to irrigate our farms to ensure enough food during drought” Molly Oruko a member of the Young lady B women group.

With its ability to boost agricultural production by providing irrigation opportunities which improve yields, clear environmental benefit by utilizing non-carbon emitting technologies, solar Irrigation Pump also enhances water accessibility by affording the opportunity to harness previously untappable water sources that improve the quality of life and will have a transformative effect.
According to the County Irrigation officer, Eng. Wilson odhiambo, the solar water pump technology also plays an important role in assisting small farmers to achieve substantial livelihood, crucial in combating the effects of climate change.
The climate Change officer Madam Beatrice Okello encouraged the beneficiaries to utilize the solar water pumps effectively for the benefit of the entire community.
