
The Department of Trade, Tourism, Industry and Marketing together with key stakeholders, today held round table discussions with Kisumu Governor, Professor Nyong’o, at the State Lodge Campsite, Impala Sanctuary.
The aim of the deliberations is to open up Kisumu as premier tourist destination and investment hub in the region.
The stakeholders brought on board included: the Kenya Wildlife Services, Kenya News Agency, Dunga Beach Management Unit, Blue Cross, Royal Swiss Hotel, Acacia Hotel and Kala TV.
Governor Nyong’o in his speech noted that the campaign has been pivotal in positioning Kisumu as a premier destination, showcasing its vibrant culture as a people.
“The success of this campaign is a collective achievement and our journey towards a more prosperous Kisumu is ongoing and it requires unwavering commitment and collaboration of all stakeholders” He added.
He called on the partners to strengthen the networks and relationship established through the Fish Fiesta and the Kisumu My Pride Campaign to drive initiatives that will have a lasting impact in the community.
“Tourism is a big source of revenue for many counties that were once in the league of some of the poorest nations and opened up counties for investments as well as creating opportunities for both foreigners and locals to learn about new cultures” He reiterated.

The CECM for Trade and Tourism, Hon. Farida Salim who highlighted some of their key agenda in the department like positioning Kisumu as an investment hub, mitigating betting and alcoholism and promoting the growth of tourism industry in Kisumu.

Also gracing the occasion were: Mama County Dorothy Nyong’o, Sub County Admins; Nyando, Kadibo, Seme, Kisumu West, Muhoroni and Nyakach, Chief Officer of Trade, Directorate in Charge of Industrialization and the Kisumu County C.E.O Miss Beauty Contest.
The key stakeholders and participants received awards and certificates, including Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and CECM for Tourism Hon. Farida Salim.
