Kisumu County Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o today officiated the launch of a significant wheelchair distribution exercise at Mama Grace Kisumu Social Hall, marking a renewed commitment to empowering persons with disabilities in the region.

The wheelchairs, generously donated by the U.S.-based Chair the Love Foundation in collaboration with Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), are set to transform the lives of numerous beneficiaries.

‘’You have not only given mobility to those who need it but also restored dignity and independence’’, asserted the governor.

Speaking at the event, the Governor emphasized his administration’s unwavering dedication to supporting people living with disabilities in Kisumu County. He highlighted the importance of ensuring that this vulnerable group is not left behind in the county’s development agenda.

‘’My government would like to engage in structural ways through the department of social services to ensure this continues to the end’’ affirmed the governor.

The Governor also stressed the need to strengthen partnerships between Kisumu County and other well-wishers, both local and international to further enhance efforts in assisting and empowering persons with disabilities.

He extended an open invitation to all citizens to join hands with the county government in providing continued support to this community. ‘May this be the beginning of a lasting relationship in support of our shared vision.”

Representatives from Chair the Love Foundation reiterated their commitment to the initiative, promising ongoing support and expressing their desire to strengthen ties with Kisumu County for future collaborative projects.

The event also featured powerful testimonials from two beneficiaries who shared their challenging experiences and expressed profound gratitude for the wheelchairs.

They spoke of the immediate and far-reaching positive impact the wheelchairs would have on their lives, not only socially but also economically, allowing them greater independence and participation in society.

“’I am very happy today for getting this wheelchair, Now I will be moving around and going to the market place easily just like the others.’ said Catherine Nafula, one of the beneficiaries.

They extended their heartfelt appreciation to the county government, JOOUST, and Chair the Love Foundation for their benevolent contribution.’ I am full of joy, I would like to thank the governor, the university and the Chair Love foundation for remembering us.’ said Sylvester Ojola who is also a beneficiary.

The launch was also attended by senior county executive officials; The First Lady Dorothy Nyong’o, Salmon Orimba CEC Member for Public Service, County Administration and Participatory Development. Prof. Emily Akuno’ (VC, JOOUST), Prof. Ang’awa Francis (JOOUST Town Campus), Governor’s Advisor on PWDs Caroline Agwanda amongst other officials from Chair The Love Foundation, Kisumu County and JOOUST
