
Kisumu County has defended its Men’s Basketball trophy and retained the second overall title at the 10th Kicosca games that ended in Meru today.
There was jubilation at the Kenyan camp as players, their coaches and team managers celebrated the remarkable performance in the games also attended by Deputy Governor, Dr Mathew Owili who took part in the Golf competition as a defending champion.

After a brilliant show during the games, Kisumu bagged the second overall trophy after Nairobi, which also retained their number One title.
This means Nairobi and Kisumu have continued to dominate the games for the second consecutive year.

However, it was the Kisumu’s Men Basketball Team set Meru ablaze after ducking and shooting their way to victor to retain the cup their won in Kisumu during the 9th Kicosca edition.
The team’s Coach Edward Onyango and Team Manager Chris Ondijo were a happy duo after their team uprooted all the opponents on their way to lift the trophy.
In the decisive final duel, Kisumu outwitted traditional rivals- Nairobi by 47 to 43 baskets in an exciting match watched by a mammoth crowd.
Kisumu also grabbed position Two in Basketball Ladies, Netball, Volleyball Ladies and Volleyball Men.


Attempts by Kisumu to win handball Men and Handball Women however slipped away, making them to lift the Third position trophies.
The Kisumu Team were however heartbroken after they failed to defend their favourite – Men’s Tug of war, finishing third in the tough contest. Women’s Tug of war squad also withstood the chilling Meru weather to finish third.
Kisumu also put a spirited fight and finished fourth in the Choir, Baganda dance, Ramogi dance, with lead dancer, Wiliam “Omosh” Omondi who led the team during the ceremonial march past- leaving the audience in stitches with his dancing styles.
County Governor, Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o led members of the Cabinet in congratulating the team.
“Well done. We are proud of our teams and we congratulate them for a job well done,” said the Governor.
The CECM for Sports, Tourism, Gender, Culture and youth Affairs received accolades for assembling a winning team.
Kisumu now have a tough assignment of toppling Nairobi during the forthcoming 11th Kicosca games.
