On November 20th, the 8th Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSCA) games came to an end in the Intercounty premier multi-sport competition held in Embu, County 014.
The seven-day event recorded high participation as fans were treated to a series of performances in the week-long games.
After emerging 2nd in the overall ranking at the just concluded 8th Kicosca Games, Kisumu County has more reasons to celebrate having gone through rigorous practice towards Kicosca sporting event.
In a grand opening ceremony featuring match past, music and various entertainment, held in the County government’s stadium, the sporting event was officially opened by the chief guest CS Charles Keter, Minister of Devolution and ASA and was graced by H.E Governor Dr. Martin Wambora of Embu County, his counterpart H.E Governor Francis Kimemia of Nyandoro County.
The competition attracted 22 participating counties with various teams competing in football, handball, darts, volleyball, tug-of-war, athletics, netball, athletics, basketball, draught, table tennis Ajua, music and cultural dances.
Kisumu county stepped up its game in the competition taking the first position in Golf, the second position in basketball men, volleyball men with first runners-up in netball, men Tug of war, women handball and table tennis. In the third position, we had cultural dance, borrowed dance, folk song, set-piece, Ajua, basketball women.
In other games, the Kisumu team registered the best performance in Table Tennis, badminton, Tug of war women, Pool, draught, Ajua, folk song, and handball men’s team.
As the competitions came to an end, the Kisumu team was upbeat as all eyes were on the athletics with Kisumu recording impressive results in the heat competition for the 200meters, 1500 meters, 100meters run, long jump, javelin and discus, proceeding to the finals to followed by a closing ceremony thereafter.
Kisumu achieved the title as Kicosca’s second-best of the 2021 eighth Edition, after amassing a total of 14 medals while Nairobi became 1st position overall.
The Kicosca’s 8th edition came to pass after having been postponed for the last year due to the COVID pandemic.
