Kisumu County marked the second day of the 2025 Kisumu Regional Show with a vibrant showcase of agricultural innovation and climate resilience, led by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Agriculture, Mr. Kenneth Onyango, who presided over the event on behalf of Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o.
The exhibition, held at the Mamboleo Showground as been ongoing from July 16 set to conclude July 20, is organized by the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) led by the Nyanza Region Chairperson Mr. George Ong’udi in collaboration with the Kisumu County Government.
This year’s theme, “Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” spear-heads the county’s commitment to transforming agriculture in the face of climate change.
Mr. Onyango, accompanied by Chief Officer for Public Service Mr. John Oywa and Chief Officer for Agriculture Mr. Daniel Okiya Otieno, toured various exhibition and research stands.

From Kenya Forest Research Institute (KEFRI) to cereal farms, highlighting the strides made in agricultural development.
During his address on behalf of the Governor, he urged the youth to embrace modern farming and aquaculture practices, emphasizing the importance of eco-friendly energy and digital tools for economic empowerment.
“We must utilize critical factors of production land, water and human resources within predictable and controlled systems,” Onyango stated.
“Climate-smart agriculture is not just a concept; it’s a transformative approach to managing landscapes, livestock, and forests to address food security and climate challenges.” He added.
Onyango noted a significant increase in institutional participation rising from 60 exhibitors last year to 80 this year, reflecting growing interest and investment in sustainable agriculture.


He praised ASK’s leadership and the collaborative efforts of stakeholders in making the show a success. Mr. Onyango highlighted several county-led projects aimed at boosting climate resilience and economic growth.
Building on the Climate-Smart Agriculture Project,National Agricultural Development Project (NADP) promotes community-driven economic models and climate-resilient villages.
Over 245 young entrepreneurs have been trained to provide extension services and support local agribusinesses.
Kisumu has commissioned five fiberglass boats and constructed five landing jetties to support sustainable fisheries.
In collaboration with the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) the county is implementing climate-resilient agriculture and habitat initiatives.

In his closing remarks, Mr. Onyango extended Governor Nyong’o’s apologies for his absence and reaffirmed the county’s full support for the show. He applauded the ASK leadership and national government representatives for their dedication to advancing climate-smart agriculture.
“The face of climate change demands integrated and decisive action,” said Onyango
He concluded. By saying “Together, we are shaping a future where agriculture is not only productive but also sustainable and resilient.”
The Kisumu Regional Show continues to serve as a beacon of innovation, learning, and collaboration, drawing stakeholders from across the region to champion a greener and smarter agricultural future.
