Kisumu Deputy Governor Matthew Owili, today, on behalf of the Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o flagged off the Mater Heart Run Marathon 2025, Kisumu Chapter. Emphasizing its crucial role in providing life-saving cardiac care for children.
In a speech read by the DG, Governor Nyong’o described the event as a journey of hope, compassion, and community solidarity, which transforms lives by enabling children without conditions to receive vital surgeries.
The governor said that “The run gives children a fighting chance at life,” allowing them to run, play, and learn”
He expressed profound gratitude to the organizers for their unwavering dedication and commended partners, especially KCB Bank, for their exemplary corporate citizenship in supporting both the run and broader social initiatives like education and youth empowerment.


In a show of commitment and support, Governor Anyang Nyong’o announced the county government of Kisumu contribution of 200,000 shillings towards the Mater Heart Run.
He thanked all participants, stating, “Every step you take today is a step towards health for a child. You are not just running a race. You are running to mend a heart.”

Also in attendance were the CECM Public Service, County Administration and Participatory Development Salmon Orimba, CECM Sports, Culture, Gender and Youth Affairs, Beatrice Odongo, Kisumu City Manager Abala Wanga, Chief of Staff Aloice Ager, Director of Protocol Bob Madanji, and other representatives the county government and Mater Hospital.
