The County Government and Rotary Vocational Training Centre have rolled out an automotive training and educational facility, an idea that has now become a reality.
Being a county-run vocational training institute, the Rotary held the launch ceremony earlier today, graced by the Governor of Kisumu County Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o.

According to Governor Nyong’o, the garage and driving school expects to help underserved youths with practical education in automotive maintenance by providing field training opportunities that will help stimulate growth in the local automotive industry.
“We are incredibly proud of this institution and the work being done to provide our youth with opportunities for personal and professional growth. The launch of these two significant milestones – the Motor Vehicle Garage and the Driving School could not have come at a more opportune time.” Said Governor Nyong’o.

This follows the formation of the Kisumu County Vocational Education and Training (VET) Policy of June 2024 which provides a roadmap for the future of youth and a foundation for the sustainable development of vocational training in Kisumu.

The Governor urged youths to take full advantage of the subsidized training opportunities for personal development and career advancement, affirming that the County Government has allocated KES 90,525,000 for capitation grants and additional Kshs.22 million earmarked for acquiring tools and equipment to assist youth enrolled in these programs.

The Rotary is one of the centers that offer vocational training to youths in the region. Through its programs, the motor vehicle garage and driving school will assist underserved youths, while nurturing a steady pool of skilled automotive talents.
Other courses offered include, artisan in Tailoring & Dress Making and Electrical Installation, food and beverage and Mechanical Engineering.
