
UNEP representatives, Sharon Gil and Wei Huang were in Kisumu today to assess the progress of the Generation Restoration Project of Auji River.
Prior to holding discussions with the technical working team, the duo paid a courtesy call to the office of Governor Nyong’o.
During the courtesy call, they deliberated on strategies of enhancing collaborations in the areas of Generation Restoration Project among other key areas.
During the meeting with the technical working team at Kisumu Hotel, discussions mainly focused on how the team initiated the process of community engagements and community buy in of the restoration initiatives.
The engagements also highlighted restoration challenges faced within urban areas and the significance of community embracing the nature based solutions that aims to address environmental interventions that seek to solve societal challenges.
Alongside generation restoration strategies, the team discussed intensively on an ongoing call on wetlands restoration and the team committed to provide the relevant data on Dunga wetlands to assist in proposal development as was requested by Sharon
The team also toured River Auji and Dunga Wetlands to have an experience with the areas identified for restoration.
The team affirmed their commitment to the project and also raised the need to scale up the project following the recently held community engagement and acceptance of the pilot project
