Kisumu County is set to take center stage in Africa’s urban innovation landscape as it prepares to host the inaugural Africa Smart Cities & Townships Alliance (ASCA) Convention from August 20–22, 2025.
The announcement was made by Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o, who expressed pride in the city’s selection and its growing reputation as a hub for sustainable development.
The convention, organized in partnership with the World Smart Cities Forum (WSCF) will bring together representatives from over 20 African cities alongside international stakeholders from the United Kingdom, South Korea, India and global organizations such as the UNDP, World Bank Group and the African Development Bank.
Governor Nyong’o emphasized that ASCA is designed to promote inclusive, smart and sustainable urban development across Africa.
“This landmark initiative will foster strategic cooperation, innovation, and resilience in these changing global times,” he said.
The ASCA platform aims to connect African cities with global partners in technology, urban planning, climate resilience and investment mobilization.
Kisumu’s role as host city highlights its commitment to forward-thinking governance and its ambition to become a model for smart city transformation on the continent.
“We look forward to welcoming delegates and showcasing the vibrant spirit of Kisumu,” Nyong’o added. “Let’s work together to build a smarter, more sustainable future for Africa.”
The convention is expected to catalyze new opportunities for Kisumu and reinforce its position as a leader in Africa’s urban renaissance.
