A 51-year-old resident of Seme, Linet Auma Arigi, has experienced a remarkable transformation after undergoing a successful cataract surgery at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
Ms. Auma’s battle with eyesight began in her childhood when her eyes would itch, water, and blur her vision, particularly in sunlight. This made it difficult for her to study, leading her to drop out of school in class six.
Despite seeking treatment from various medical facilities, Ms. Auma’s vision continued to deteriorate, leaving her isolated and dependent on others. Her condition was further compounded by other health issues, including the need for a tricycle wheelchair to aid her movement.
During a recent visit to JOOTRH’s eye clinic, Ms. Auma learned about the ongoing Free Screening and Surgery Camp. She seized the opportunity and was diagnosed with cataracts. The surgery was a success, thanks to the expertise of the surgical team, including Dr. Stephen Ojuma, JOOTRH’s Ophthalmologist.
Ms. Auma is now able to see clearly and has expressed her gratitude to the healthcare team at JOOTRH for their compassionate care. The experience has restored her sight, hope, dignity, and independence.
The free eye camp, organized by Pankaj Social Services in collaboration with Laxmanbhai Free Eye Hospital, Kisumu County, and JOOTRH, has been offering life-changing eye care services to the residents of Kisumu. The free eye screening process is still ongoing at JOOTRH until October 4th 2024.
