Kisumu county played host to a 2 days meeting for the First Ladies Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) forum under the auspice of H.E. Dorothy Nyong’o.
The Forum brought together First Ladies from the LREB region to participate in the regional barriers to bridging the social – economic gaps around the concept of ‘laying the foundation for sustainable utilization of shared resources’.
The meeting is a clarion call for synergy on tackling various cross cutting issues in the gender field by highlighting key possibilities of synergistic action towards transforming LREB through active participation of the first ladies in various activities affecting social -economic growth.
The objectives of the meeting is to establish à framework for the LREB first ladies chapter, FastTrack on the LREB women Sacco agenda, sensitization on the western Kenya sanitation program and sensitization on smart start initiative, Nurturing care for early child hood development.
In light of the extreme urgency in taking action, the first ladies called upon development partners to support a joint LREB Campaign towards social-economic development of the regional bloc. To realize this, leaders committed to consolidating and scaling up best practices within the country and across the nations in Africa to ensure access to ensure sustainable utilization of shared resources.
First ladies in the lake region have played a vital role in building awareness, addressing social & economic development agendas, nurturing care for early childhood development programs and the broader health and development agenda particularly geared towards women, children and youth.
