The GenRes tchnical-working group, today joined the United Destiny Shapers, a CBO mainly comprising youths in voluntary cleaning up of Auji River along Nyalenda and neighboring areas in the ongoing efforts to restore the river’s ecosystem.
The cleanup of the Auji River is geared towards restoring its lost glory. The exercise was climaxed by tree planting along the waterways.
According to, the USD Leader, Mr. Peter Owiny, Auji river has become an open dumping ground, not only in the informal settlements but also urban and peri urban areas due to the lack of efficient solid waste collection systems.
This pervasive practice has led to pollution of the river with plastics, solid waste, and liquid waste.
The pollution has profoundly affected not only the ecosystem but also the well-being of the inhabitants residing along the river and the biodiversity that relies on it.
The river has become prone to flooding during the rainy seasons due to siltation and blockages from discarded wastes, causing the riverbed to rise, further compromising the river ecosystem.
The GenRes Technical working group was represented by: Erick Ogadho the project Coordinator, Jackline Mueni, Dan Owino, Ludfin Kosome, and Martina Rita.
