Kisumu County, Directorate of Fisheries through the Aquaculture Business Development Program (ABDP)funded by IFAD, yesterday stocked three community dams with a total of 66,000 post harvest Tilapia fingerlings.
The community dams namely: Huma self -help group dam in Kisumu West sub county, Buoye community dam in Kisumu East sub county and Kere Women group dam in Nyakach sub county each received 22,000 post harvest Tilapia fingerlings.
This initiative through the ABDP focuses on increasing the incomes, food security and nutritional status of the wider poor – rural households involved in aquaculture.
The fingerlings procured by the programme coordination unit in Nyeri were stocked into the three dams under the supervision of PCU officer from Nyeri, Mr. Samuel Ikima, County programme coordinator Mr. Kenneth Luga, programme designated accountant Madam Leticia Awuor and the procurement officer Julit Adisa witnessed by the members of the respective dam.
