
Youths from different groups within Kisumu today converged at United Destiny Shapers grounds in Nyalenda to acquire skills on how to establish and manage tree nurseries for commercial purposes under the Generation Restoration Project.
Inspired to create employment and to get income, the youths have embarked on a journey to produce and supply seedlings that will be used for conservation of the environment and to reduce carbon sinks.

Mr. Jeff Bonyo , Kisumu East Sub County agricultural officer serving as one of the facilitators encouraged the youths to think commercial as they plan to establish tree nurseries.
He took them through the benefits of trees, seed quality, viability , species and on the best practices on management of tree nurseries.

While Mr. Meshack Okoth Omuono , the research scientist on Agroforestry from the Kenya Forestry Research Institute, trained the youths on certification of tree nurseries.
He delved on the requirements necessary for certification, the validity of the certificate, those who can apply for certification among others.
The duo also took the youths through demos on how to establish tree nurseries using bamboo, fruit trees and nappier grass which are mainly used for conservation.

The exercise came to a climax with planting of seedlings.
Also gracing the event were officers from the Generation Restoration technical working group drawn from different departments within the County.
