The County department of Water Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources with the support of the Muungano wa wanavijiji/Shack Dwellers International Kenya (SDI) today launched the Kisumu County Climate Risk & Vulnerability Assessment ( KCCRVA) report in a ceremony held at the Tom Mboya Labor College in Kisumu.

To inform this effort, the Kisumu County climate change risk and vulnerability assessment was undertaken to provide critical evidence and a scientific analysis to precipitate county adaptation to address climate change. The KCCRVA is based on foundational climate change down-scaling work performed previously which identified and mapped Kisumu’s climate hazards.
The ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Governor Dr. Mathew Owili who on behalf of Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o noted that for years, communities in Kisumu have endured the relentless impacts of climate change pandemics that have meted untold suffering and havoc to domestic & informal households.

In his speech the Deputy Governor stated that by leading at the forefront the administration is re- writing these stories through community driven solutions, bold policy shifts and strategic partnerships and developing blueprints for survival in the face of climate adversity.

Dr. Owili was great ful to Shack Dwellers International Kenya – SDI, led by their Executive Director Joseph Kimani in collaboration with the County Government and Maseno University for spearheading bold interventions that are turning commitment into action and hope into tangible results.

The event also exhibited resilient investment project initiatives by the various communities to showcase efforts in promoting adaptation to climate change.

In attendance was Assembly Speaker Hon.Elisha Oraro, his Deputy Hon. Nerea Okombo, a host of MCA’s, CEC Environment and Climate Change Judith Oluoch, her counterpart Farida Salim, John Awiti, Dr. Gregory Ganda amongst other Officials.
