Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o has this morning expressed his undivided support for the bipartisan talks currently ongoing at the national level being hopeful of the successful conclusion as per the wishes of the party leader the RT Hon Raila Odinga.
In a press conference earlier today, the governor acknowledged that as a County that bore the brunt of the recent street protests against the cost of living, Kisumu has no alternative but to support the ongoing dialogue between the Kenya Kwanza and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance.
“As a leadership and a people of Kisumu, we have been following closely the ongoing talks and must remind all of the thorns, stones, teargas and roadblocks to the bipartisan action.” Said the Governor.
This comes at the height of the ongoing bipartisan talks established to resolve the country’s fundamental issues and forge a ‘national consensus’. The ten-member team has 60 days to report to President Ruto and Rt Hon. Raila Odinga according to a motion tabled in the national assembly.
The Governor rightly urged the team of experts to remain focused on the intent and content of the dialogue, noting that no Kenyan citizen has to endure subhuman living conditions and that every Kenyan must have adequate food, decent shelter and clothing, adequate health, security, and gainful employment as well as a right to enjoy minimum standards of human existence.
Governor Nyong’o appealed to the negotiators and the leaders to give the talks a chance to help resolve issues that resulted in the demonstrations, assuring the party leader of his support for the decision to engage in dialogue.
The Governor was cognizant of the naysayers who are yet to embrace dialogue urging leaders from both sides of the dialogue to tone down on hardliner attitudes and to stay focused on the national issues.
“We should never allow selfishness, egotistic, and chauvinistic ways to replace the cause we have believed in for so long. It is only the bipartisan talks that will get the country out of the current muddle and allow it to forge ahead with the business of development and Nation-building.” Said Governor Nyong’o.
