World mental health day to be marked in Kisumu.

The cabinet secretary .Honorable Mutahi Kagwe will on 9th October 2021 preside over the commemoration of world mental health day at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu. During the event he will also commission the construction of the comprehensive cancer center as well as officially open the covid-19 Hospital.

The event will also be graced by the Govenor of Kisumu , Pro: Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o, the Deputy Governor Dr.Mathew Owili, the Chief Officer health Dr Gregory Ganda , JOOTRH’s CEO Dr George Rae will also be present .

Other guest expected at the function include the County women representative Hon Rose Buyu,member of parliament , Representative of the health committee Honorable Dr James Nyikal and the presidential advisor on mental health Dr. Frank Njenga.

Nacada Representative Dr. Yvonne Olando , Red cross Secretary General Dr.Asha Muhammed, WHO County representative , Dr Julie Nabyonga, Director Health Dr Patrick Amoth and the regional Commissioner Mr.Magu Mutandika will also be in attendance.

JOOTRH has set up a medically Assisted Therapy (MAT) with an objective to reduce morbidity associated with illicit opioid drug use including drug overdose.

The center was also set up to prevent transmission of HIV and other blood borne infections and reduce drug -related crime.

The JOOTRH wellness center also provides psychological support service to enhance the drug user mental and physical stability and self esteem while reducing stigma and creating an enabling environment which would facilitate access to health care ,adherence to treatment and social reintegration.
