The County government in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Sifting (FES) this week held a two days workshop on Mainstreaming Climate Change into Kisumu’s Development Programming specifically through strategies, plans and projects.
Participants drawn from various sectors both national institutions and county government together with the civil society and members of the community set out to identify progress towards the implementation of climate related-actions as highlighted in the CIDP.
The workshop was an opportunity to build up participants’ skills and knowledge on the relationship between climate change and development; the process for integrating climate change into development programs, strategies, plans and projects; as well as the use of Toolkit for Monitoring and evaluation of Climate Change Adaptation Capacities.
Kisumu has had a County Climate Change policy and a National Adaptation Plan that are addressing climate change issues. “The objective of the workshop is to engage the stakeholders on mainstreaming climate change actions into CIDP III and to sensitize the stakeholders on the Kisumu County integrated climate change action plan”, stated Director Evans Gichana of Climate Change directorate. He added that this workshop is a great opportunity for technical stakeholders of key departmental sectors to take into consideration climate issues for the elaboration or updating of future local development plans.
The participants who were optimistic shared that the training would help them explore the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLOCA) Fund’s financial resources for county projects.
