The 12th Edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural (KICOSCA) Games 2025 kicked off with pomp and color in Siaya County today.
The new patron, H.E. Hon. James Orengo, flagged off the county teams for a vibrant procession from Karapul Primary School to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium.
The procession was a colorful celebration of unity in diversity, featuring teams showcasing their rich cultural dances.
A moment of solemnity was observed with a minute of silence in honor of the fallen hero and son of the soil, the Late Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga, a key proponent of devolution.
Governor Orengo, the KICOSCA new Patron, officially opened the ceremony and extended a warm welcome to all participants. He expressed gratitude to the Governing Council for selecting Siaya as the host.
This year’s theme, “Celebrating Devolution through Sports and Culture for sustainable development,” reflects shared aspirations for fostering national cohesion, boosting staff morale, and forging lasting connections across counties. The event saw the participation of 30 counties.
Entertainment was provided by teams from Uasin Gishu, Bungoma, and Siaya counties.
Former KICOSCA Patron, H.E. Hon. Fernandes Baraza, Governor Kakamega County, reiterated that KICOSCA contributes to national unity and efficient service delivery by boosting morale in Devolved units.
H.E. Simon Kachapin, Governor West Pokot and Chairman of the Council of Governors Committee on Gender, Youths, Sports, Culture and Social Services, noted that KICOSCA has grown into a national platform for building friendship and competition.
The interim National Chairman, John Ang’awa, urged county employees to honor the late ‘father of devolution’ by offering the best life-changing services to the people of Kenya.
An important outcome of the games will be the selection of outstanding athletes to represent Kenya at the East African Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) games.
