
The County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Tourism, Industry and Marketing Ms Farida Salim held a consultative forum with key stakeholders ahead of the planned department’s signature event dubbed Fish Fiesta and a partnership event dubbed Naam Festival under the platform – Kanda La Ziwa.
The department will be holding Fish Fiesta 2023 during Easter Holidays running from 6th to 9th April 2023 at Hippo Point Public Beach in Kisumu.
The event will be marked with activities such as Boat Race, Miss Tourism, Mr. Tourism, Mr. Flex, Mr. Strong, Tug of War, Photo Competition, Beach Volleyball, Entertainment, Kids Fun Fair, Exhibitions, Symposia, Medical Camps, and Fire Works.
As a precursor to the event, Kisumu is hosting under the platform of Kanda La Ziwa, a Lakeside people’s meeting on environmental governance sustainable development to meet and discuss environmental challenges and solutions at the Lake.
Those planning to visit Kisumu during the Easter Holidays are invited to eat and enjoy fresh delicacies of fresh fish from Lake Victoria.

The Stakeholders together with the media team visited Dunga Hill Camp to launch the Naam Festival running under a platform Kanda La Ziwa. Led by Hon. Farida. The team later took a guided tour to Ogal Beach and had a conversation with Beach Management Unit stakeholders on the conversation of the lake.
The Department of Tourism is also running a marketing campaign under ‘Kisumu My Pride’ to appreciate and bring the best of Kisumu to the world. This campaign will be climaxed by a planned photo contest that will appreciate excellent sceneries and stories of the great county of Kisumu.
The photo contest under hashtag #KisumuPhotoContest will be running for one month and winners will be awarded various prizes. At the same time, the Department of Tourism will be undertaking auditions in all eight Sub counties, which include Nyakach, Nyando, Muhoroni, Kisumu East, Kadibo, Kisumu West, Seme, and Kisumu Central.
Winners of Miss Tourism will be awarded and crowned as the brand ambassadors of Kisumu County under the marketing campaign ‘Kisumu My Pride’.
The department is in collaboration and in partnership with different institutions to ensure success in the upcoming Fish Fiesta 2023.

The partners include the Council of Governors, Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI), Kenya Wildlife Service, Lake Basin Development Authority, Kenya Maritime Authority, Kenya Institute and Research Development Institute, Tourism Regulatory Authority, Tourism Fund, Lake Region Economic Bloc, Lake Victoria Tourism Association, Kenya Association of Manufacturers, Chamber of Commerce, Sight savers, USAID Empowered Youth, Amusement World, Homeboyz Group, and Sema Pay Services among many partners and collaborators.
