Kisumu Deputy Governor Dr.Mathew Owili joined UCLG – Africa and UN Habitat to witness an MoU signing between the two organisations on the sidelines of the 2nd Session of the UNHabitat General Assembly at their headquarters in Gigiri.
The MoU signed by UCLGA Secretary General Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi and UN Habitat Director for Africa Office Oumar Sylla, seeks to enhance cooperation between the two global bodies.
UCLGA and UNHabitat have partnered over time to address challenges facing sub-national governments across Africa especially gaps in the implementation of Agenda 2030.
The occasion was also witnessed by Ms. Rohey Malick Lowe, the Mayor of Banjul and the President of Refella, an organ of UCLGA for elected women leaders.
Dr. Owili later participated as a panelist at the UN-Habitat high level session on localization of SDG financing alongside UN – Habitat Executive Director Ms. Maimunah Sharif.
The forum was convened to address challenges contributing to the slow implementation of SDGs goals and financial strategies in regional governments.
The panel was also composed of representatives from the Brazilian Development Bank, Tanzania, Blend Group and the World Bank.
