Kisumu county sports teams had a reason to smile having received Personal Protective Equipmentsdonated by the sports directorate earlier today at the county headquarters.
The various sports teams including Kisumu rugby, Para volley, Karate, taekwondo, athletics Kenya, Kisumu hockey men and women received face masks and sanitizers issued by the chief officer for Tourism culture and sports Dr. Gerald ondiek.
The chief officer encouraged the sports men and women to remain up to date with Public Health and government authority guidance on COVID-19 case management while in the pitch. Stating that in response to COVID- 19, the county directorate of sports continues with its commit to supporting kisumu sports teams through identification and development of talents by empowering the teams on COVID- 19 control measures and donating protective gears to the teams.
Dr. Ondiek also urged the teams to make use of the sports amenities available by the county government adding that the department is ready to support sports in spite of the challenges. The chief officer also noted that the directorate is currently working on policy formulation which is due for completion early next year.
On her part Director sports, Madam Valerie Kizito urged the teams to keep up with the good work and to uphold individual hygiene within the sporting environment.
Also present was Mr. Ken Otieno among other county officials.
