The County Directorate of ICT in partnership with Ajira Digital has organized a training program for the Orongo widows and orphans CBO to provide high-demand digital skills to support increased income-generating potential as well as guide the participants on entrepreneurial skills to drive economic development.
The Orongo widows and orphans is a community based self help organization with operations in Kisumu East Subcounty. The group engages in Agriculture and Environmentally friendly activities including promotion of clean cooking, afforestation as well as Art and craft products to support their livelihoods.
The training brought together youths and women who are members of the CBO to learn digital skills to help promote sales and marketing of their products.

Having identified an ICT gap among the Members, the group led by Managing Director Ms Florence Ogundo sought to improve the members operational methods through digital literacy in e- commerce, E- citizen services, tax compliance issues among other ICT related challenges that enhance social spiritual and economic inclusion in the community.
The training program was officially opened by the County Director for ICT Ms Maureen Awuor who encouraged the participants to cease the opportunity to access digital literacy that is beneficial to their economic development.
The rapid growth of mobile access brings with it new economic, social, and educational opportunities for empowerment actions in ICT. The county government is committed to work towards women and youth empowerment through digital literacy.
